New York City. Brooklyn. Midtown. Queens. The Financial District. They are all the same place, right?
So many acronyms…SoHo, NoHo, LES, UWS…where am I again?!
New York City with a population of 8.2 million people is comprised of 5 boroughs. A borough is a way of dividing up the city for the purposes of administration and governance. Sort of making it like five cities within the city.
The five boroughs are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. If you say you are going to New York City, a native might ask you which borough you will be visiting. Most often, visitors choose to stay in Manhattan to be close to big name attractions. Brooklyn, however, is also a good option and tends to be slightly more affordable, closer to JFK and LGA airports and has easy access to Manhattan via subway or car service.
